Where this comes from. The heat map is radar-estimated hail from NOAA’s Severe Weather Data Inventory (NCEI) — the NEXRAD radar network’s hail-size estimates across a continuous grid, the same class of data the paid hail-report services use. The labelled markers are National Weather Service Local Storm Reports (confirmed human observations) via the Iowa Environmental Mesonet. We find your area’s storm days, then pull the radar hail for each.

What it is and isn’t. Radar estimates hail size from reflectivity — it is strong evidence a storm occurred over your area, not proof that your specific roof was damaged. Estimates can run high or low, and only an on-roof inspection confirms real damage. This tool is free and informational.
